Aloft Hotels, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, is planning to launch voice-activated hotel rooms. The programme, believed to be a world-first, allows guests to control their room using the Siri software from Apple’s iOS.
Each Aloft voice-activated room will be equipped with an iPad running a custom Aloft app. It can be used for controlling the room temperature, lighting and music. It will also speak to a virtual concierge.
Aloft is known for its use of technology. It has also launched what is believed to be the world’s first-ever emoji-only room service.
The voice-activated rooms have already made their debut in the United States in Boston Seaport and Santa Clara. We await the arrival of the technology in the UK.
Currently there are two Aloft-branded hotels in the UK in London at ExCeL and in central Liverpool. Two more are currently on the drawing board in Brighton with a September 2018 planned opening and at London Tobacco Dock in June 2019.
