The Turnberry Resort hotel in Ayrshire has officially closed as work commences on a £200 million renovation to the hotel building and the championship Ailsa golf course.

Now called Trump Turnberry, following its acquisition by US tycoon Donald Trump last year, the historic 1906 hotel will undergo a complete renovation. The upgrade will include a complete revamp of all 157 bedrooms, the restaurants and the public areas.

Additions will include a new ballroom for up to 500 guests.

Externally the Ailsa championship golf course will be remodelled.

The golf club house has completed its renovation. It re-opened in June 2015 and this will remain open for business during the renovation work, along with the Trump Villas and the Spa at Turnberry.

Trump Turnberry is expected to re-open in June 2016.
