West Ham Football Club is the preferred bidder for the site but its reopening, originally scheduled for 2013, may not now take place until 2016 or beyond.
Long before that the Copper Box will be the first venue to reopen. This was where the Olympic handball competition took place. It incorporates a gym and a public sports hall and is likely to be used for exhibitions, conferences and other commercial events. It is planned to open 27th July 2013.
Further out of London is the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Essex. This was the only brand new 2012 venue which the public could use before the London Olympics Games and it reopened to the public in September 2012. Lee Valley White Water Centre incorporates two, purpose built courses, including the 5.5m high 300m long Olympic-standard competition course. It is just 20 miles from the Olympic Park in Stratford.
Not only is The Lee Valley White Water Centre considered to be the best white water course in the world, they also have two meeting rooms on site accommodating up to 40 delegates and with their own private terrace overlooking the course. AV equipment on site includes a high definition data projector, a 120 inch projector screen, a Blu-ray DVD player and integrated speakers Refreshments are available during the day. Lunch can be arranged - from a barbeques to a buffet and there is also a licensed bar.
