Marriott International and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have agreed to merge in a move that will create the world's largest hotel group.
The combined company will operate or franchise more than 5,500 hotels with 1.1 million rooms across the world.
This promotes the group to the top of the premier league ahead of competitors, Hilton Worldwide with 4,500 hotels and 745,000 rooms and IHG InterContinental Hotels Group with 4,750 hotels and 674,000 rooms.
The new Marriott-Starwood Group now controls thirty major hotel brands worldwide including:
Marriott: Marriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott, Autograph Collection Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Renaissance Hotels, Courtyard and Moxy
Starwood: Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, Le Meridien, Aloft and Four Points
