Chelsea Football Club has unveiled plans to build a new stadium on the site of their current home at Stamford Bridge. This will involve demolishing the existing 41,600-seat stadium and replacing it with a new 60,000-seat stadium.
The new stadium will include a shop, museum and restaurant but there is no mention yet of the future conference and events facilities. Stamford Bridge currently has over twenty conference and banqueting suites of varying dimensions.
Subject to planning approval preliminary work should start at the end of this football season. Demolition of Stamford Bridge would begin in 2017 with Chelsea moving to a temporary home, most likely Wembley, for a three-year period.
The investment is thought to be in the region of £500million complicated by the fact that the new stadium is planned to bridge two bordering train lines.
