VisitYork4Meetings has just published details of the latest investments planned by York-based venues.

These include a multi-million pound investment project at the Royal York Hotel, which will see the city centre hotel re-launch as a four-star deluxe early in the New Year. The project includes a refurbishment of all 159 bedrooms, a new restaurant seating 129 guests and a new bar concept.

Also in the New Year, the five star Grand Hotel & Spa is planning a £15 million redevelopment of the former Northern Railway HQ. Plans have been submitted for an expansion and refurbishment programme which will increase the number of guest rooms to over 200, upgrade the conference and spa facilities, as well as create a new restaurant space seating 140 guests.

Staycity apartments is a six-storey building under construction next to York Barbican and overlooking the Bar Walls, on the site of a former swimming pool. Staycity with 197 apartments should be completed in spring 2016.

Significant additions last year included a new events suite in the Best Western Monkbar hotel’s £3million development programme. Hotel Indigo, York's newest hotel, opened its doors with 101 bedrooms, plus a health and a fitness suite.
