Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales has moved a step closer to creating a new international convention centre.
This follows the recent signing of an agreement between Celtic Manor Resort and the Welsh Government. The agreement paves the way for the construction of the £80million facility, the largest in Wales, which could open in 2019.
The international convention centre would be capable of accommodating up to 5,000 delegates. The main auditorium would accommodate up to 1,500 delegates with the flexibility to divide into smaller spaces.
The centre would include a 4000 sq-mt exhibition hall as well as 15 meeting rooms, the largest seating up to 500 delegates theatre style – all equipped with the latest technology with a fully integrated audio visual facility.
The international convention centre would link to existing accommodation, conference and meeting facilities within Celtic Manor Resort.
Celtic Manor Resort is also planning a £2million upgrade of Coldra Court Hotel in Newport which it acquired recently.
Coldra Court Hotel, which had traded as the Hilton Hotel Newport until the end of March 2016, currently has 148 bedrooms, a newly rebranded Springs Health Club plus nine conference and meeting rooms including the Severn Suite which will seat up to 220 delegates.
The upgrade, which will span three years, will see a phased refurbishment of the bedrooms at Coldra Court Hotel, the introduction of a new restaurant concept and an updating of the conference and banqueting facilities.
