Plans to redevelopment Cardiff's Coal Exchange into a hotel have been given the go-ahead.
Despite being a Grade II-listed building, the Coal Exchange is now in a severe state of disrepair. Liverpool-based Signature Living want to turn the Coal Exchange into a 200-suite hotel with a restaurant, bar and a spa facility. The former trading hall will be transformed into an events venue with a capacity of up to 1000 delegates.
The Coal Exchange is located in Cardiff Bay. It was constructed between 1883 and 1886 and was used to trade coal.
Reconstruction of the Cardiff Coal Exchange is expected to take eighteen months to complete with initial work starting in the next few weeks.
