A proposed extension of St Mellons Country Club and Hotel, including 50 new bedrooms and new conference facilities, is set for planning approval.

St Mellons Country Club and Hotel is a country house hotel set in secluded gardens, midway between Cardiff and Newport. The hotel specialises in conferences and events, as well as weddings.

St Mellons Country Club and Hotel currently has 21 bedrooms plus 18 chalets in the gardens. There are seven conference rooms, a lounge, restaurant, bar, ballroom, spa and leisure facilities.

Under the new proposals, part of the existing hotel would be demolished and an extension built to provide extra facilities for conferences.

A total of 50 additional hotel rooms would also be created, taking the total number of bedrooms at St Mellons Country Club and Hotel to 99. The chalets on the site would also be removed and replaced with 18 log cabins. Provision for 99 onsite parking spaces is included.

The St Mellons Country Club and Hotel scheme will be considered by Newport City Council's planning committee in early August.
