Plans have been submitted to convert the Grade II-listed Llanelli Railway Goods Shed into a cultural hub including an arts centre plus events and office space.
A Trust is planning the repair and restoration of the disused goods shed. Proposed facilities will also include a café and heritage centre. Plans have been submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council.
Llanelli Railway Goods Shed was built between 1875 and 1878 for the use of the South Wales Railway and to capitalise on Llanelli’s importance at the centre of the tinplate industry.
The Trust is currently negotiating with Network Rail to acquire the Llanelli Railway Goods Shed. Lottery Funding and the Railway Heritage Trust have pledged financial support.
