Claridge’s hotel in London has been granted planning permission by Westminster Council for a five-floor ‘iceberg’ basement beneath its Grade II-listed building in Mayfair.
The basement will house a new swimming pool, spa and gym, conference facilities plus a new in-house bakery and chocolatier.
Roof top plant will be relocated in the lower basement levels along with a boiler room. This will release space on the top floors of Claridge’s which will be rebuilt and extended adding 40 more bedrooms and suites to Claridge’s existing 197 bedrooms.
Claridge’s will remain open during the construction. The substructure to the existing hotel will be maintained on a system of adjustable jacks.
