The Northern Counties building in Derry / Londonderry is going to be converted into a boutique hotel and restaurant thanks to a grant from the Inner City Building Preservation Trust (ICBT). The Northern Counties building in Bishop Street and currently vacant, is Grade B1 listed and was built in 1899. It is a well-known landmark in the city centre. For many years it was a private members’ club, and a base for the city’s business and civic leaders.
The Northern Counties building is the first project in the UK to secure a confirmed grant from the new Heritage Lottery Fund programme which has been designed to stimulate local economic growth by unlocking the commercial potential of unused historic buildings and sites.
