Edwardian Hotels London has celebrated the ‘bottoming out’ of the new hotel it is developing in Leicester Square.
Excavators have now reached the lowest point of the building which will be more than 30 metres below ground level, making it the deepest hotel basement in London.
Around six storeys, or over half of the new hotel, will be located below the surface in order to maximise value. The hotel will reach deeper than most tube stations.
The new Edwardian Hotel Leicester Square will include bars and restaurants, two Odeon cinemas, banqueting and events facilities plus leisure facilities – all below ground.
Above ground, the hotel will offer 350 bedrooms and suites.
The project represents a £300mllion investment for Edwardian Hotels London.
Edwardian Hotel Leicester Square is not scheduled to open before 2019.
