What has been termed ‘Europe’s largest hotel development’ is set to go ahead shortly in Somerset.

Contract have been awarded to design and build Hinkley Point C campus living accommodation for on-site workers during construction of Hinckley C Power Station on the Somerset coast.

Hinkley Point Campus is considered to be the largest hotel style development in Europe for 25 years.

When completed in 2018/19 it will provide 1,496 en-suite bedrooms across 44 individual buildings at two key locations.

The Bridgwater Campus is the larger of the two developments, with twenty-nine accommodation blocks, each offering en-suite rooms for 34 workers.

A further fifteen buildings will be located at the Hinkley site providing direct access to the construction zone.

The three storey buildings have been sympathetically designed to complement the surroundings, with natural timber and stone-effect cement cladding providing distinctive yet subtle exterior facades.

The accommodation modules will be factory-built and delivered to site 96% complete, with all en-suite rooms fully fitted-out.

The campus will provide accommodation for workers during the construction of Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant which is expected to last around ten years.

When completed the facility will provide 7% of the UK’s electricity.
