Green light for Drake’s Island hotel in Plymouth

Plans to redevelop Drake's Island in Plymouth with a new luxury hotel have been given the go-ahead by city councillors.

Proposals for the site include a luxury hotel with a spa and restaurant. It will also feature an educational facility for the general public.

Earlier proposals for the site were rejected due to the potential impact on a protected bird colony resident on the island.

Drake's Island is a landmark site in Plymouth Sound. Originally known as St Nicholas Island, it has been fortified from at least the 16th century with military use continuing until after World War II.
