His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has officially opened MCC's new £25 million Warner Stand at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
The Warner Stand, which has been built over the course of the last two winters, is the first new stand at Lord’s since the Grand Stand was completed in 1998.
The new Warner Stand is located between the Grade II-listed Pavilion and the Grand Stand and replaces the original Warner Stand, which was completed in 1958 and was no longer considered fit for purpose.
New spaces and facilities within the Warner Stand include a new Match Control Suite, located at the rear of the lower tier seating. There is a host of restaurants and bars at all levels that will serve to boost non-match day income.
A 135-cover glazed-walled restaurant occupies a central position with large windows looking out over the pitch.
The Warner Stand is part of a 20-year masterplan for Lord’s Cricket ground. The plan comprises the redevelopment of four existing buildings, including the Tavern and Allen Stands and a partial refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Pavilion and Bowlers’ Annexe.
