University of Sheffield is currently investing £2million transforming its 1990s student residence - Jonas Court - at its Endcliffe Village campus into a 79-bedroom Jonas Hotel.
Jonas Hotel is expected to comprise two floors with 57 rooms of student hotel accommodation on one floor and 23 bedrooms of general hotel accommodation on the other.
The en-suite hotels rooms will be available for the public and will share the communal facilities on the ground floor including an informal café, lounge space, quiet study space and games areas.
Jonas Hotel promises to be stylish and quirky. It will feature a mural created by a local graffiti artist focussing on Sheffield's history and cultural icons.
The wall art features city icons including the cathedral, a be-spectacled Jarvis Cocker, a bottle of Henderson’s Relish and images of the Tinsley Cooling Towers which were demolished in 2008. There is also a penny coin to symbolise the public appeal which funded the creation of Sheffield University in 1904.
Jonas Hotel is set to open in August 2017.
