Plymouth City Council has now granted planning permission for the new 80-bedroom 1620 Hotel on the site of the former Quality Hotel, adjacent to Plymouth Hoe.
The 1620 Hotel will be an 11-storey luxury boutique hotel with 80 bedrooms – an increase from the 60 bedrooms originally planned, plus a 15-storey residential tower with 88 apartments.
1620 Hotel will also feature conference and events space, a health spa and two restaurants including one on the 11th floor overlooking Plymouth Sound.
The Quality Inn building, widely regarded in the city as an ‘eyesore’, was demolished last year.
Construction is scheduled to begin autumn of 2017.
The 1620 Hotel is due for completion in late-2019, in time for the 400th anniversary celebrations to mark the sailing of the Mayflower from Plymouth to the New World in 1620 – hence the hotel’s name.
