Blackfriars Restaurant is a former medieval friary in Newcastle upon Tyne. It has just opened a series of new corporate and private events spaces within its 13th century buildings.
Blackfriars Restaurant has renovated several areas above the main restaurant.
The new space includes a 14-delegate cookery school and a meeting room to seat up to 40 delegates. The main Blackfriars Restaurant itself will seat up to 90 guests.
The new space has been refurbished by traditional craftsmen with furniture, lighting and fabrics all in-keeping with the distinguished history of Blackfriars.
Blackfriars is a former medieval friary dating back to 1239 when it was the home of the city’s ‘Black Friars’. In 1543, Blackfriars’ first floor rooms became the meeting house for the crafts guilds in the locality.
The first floor space has in recent years been used by North East of England Civic Trust who moved out a few years ago, with the space lying dormant ever since.
Blackfriars Restaurant is located in Friars Street in the heart of Newcastle on Tyne.
