Construction work will begin on the new five-star Sands Hotel in Blackpool in January 2018. Sands Hotel with 96 bedrooms will be built above the current Sands Venue site.
Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2019.
Sands Hotel will feature some of the largest standard rooms in the resort at 29 – 32 sq-mt and suites from 42 sq-mt - 72 sq-mt with further suites in excess of 72 sq-mt with sea views. The reception will be designed around a 1920’s/1930’s theme.
Sands Venue will be closed and not re-open until the hotel is finished.
When Sands Venue reopens it will be a ‘one onsite entertainment centre’ with the hotel, restaurant, bistro, ground floor bar and restaurant and expansion of the Wild West Diner - all available to the general public.
Along with these facilities there will be a spa, barbers, hairdressers, nail salon and hotel shop.
Sands Venue will also house a new ‘Amuseum’ planned to open in Blackpool. Amuseum will occupy the first floor of the building with its own ground floor entrance located on Bank Hey Street. The museum is expected to be themed around the history of entertainment.
The Sands Venue is being built on the site of the former Palatine Hotel which together with other buildings on the site, including Central Station, were demolished in the 1970s during a period of large-scale redevelopment in Blackpool.
The project is the brainchild of businessman Peter Swann, who owns the company that operates Sands Entertainment Venue and who is also chairman of League One football club - Scunthorpe United FC.
