Revised plans to convert the former Granada TV studios in the centre of Manchester into a hotel have been approved

Owners of the former television studios had submitted a revised planning application increasing the number of hotel rooms to 210, as well adding a new4,000 sq-ft glazed rooftop extension featuring a bar and restaurant for hotel guests plus a rooftop swimming pool.

An eight-storey office unit which featured in the original plans will also be replaced with a 10-storey residential block.

The former studios at Granada Television will be retained as meeting and events space, totalling 75,000 sq-ft.

The hotel will be operated as a Mollies Motel & Diner. It will be the first opening in the UK of a new hotel brand, part of members’ club operator Soho House. The group then plan to roll out the concept across six cities in England.

Construction work is anticipated to start later in the year with the redevelopment of the former studios expected to last for two years.
