Plans are afoot to convert a historic building in the heart of Birmingham's business district into serviced apartments with a bar and restaurant. The building is the old Legal and General Assurance Society offices in Waterloo Street just off Colmore Row.
Plans propose the building’s conversion into 32 serviced apartments - 27 one-bedroom apartments and five two-bedroom apartments. The former ground floor banking hall would be converted into a restaurant and bar. City planners are meeting shortly to discuss the plans.
The Grade II-listed property is located at 7-8 Waterloo Street. The building dates back to the early 1930s but has now been empty for four years. Plans have been approved in the past to convert it into a hotel and restaurant. There was a proposal at one time to convert it into a 61- bedroom Hotel Indigo but these have since lapsed. 7-8 Waterloo Street is a five minute walk to both New Street and Snow Hill Stations.
