Building work has begun on the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool, the new luxury 83-bedroom hotel named after legendary Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly. The hotel will be located in the Millennium House building, former council offices in the centre of Liverpool.
Plans for the Shankly Hotel include the addition a new roof-top extension and terrace to incorporate conferencing and events space.
Liverpool City Council approved the £15million conversion of Millennium House last year. The project also includes serviced apartments and office space. The existing gym and leisure facility in the building will be retained and will be moved to the ground and first floor. The developers, Signature Living also plan to locate a training school on the site which will support people wishing to go into the leisure and hospitality industries.
Shankly Hotel is scheduled to open in time for the new football season in August 2015.
Millennium House was originally built as the Imperial Buildings in 1879. It was redeveloped into council offices in the 1990s. It is located in Victoria Street in the heart of Liverpool between Liverpool Lime Street station and the Albert Dock.
