JD Wetherspoon has unveiled plans for a £10million upgrade of Glasgow’s Crystal Palace pub which would include building a new 73-bedroom hotel.
A vacant site alongside the pub would house 45 bedrooms with converted vacant office space above the two-storey pub used to create a further 28 bedrooms. An application will be submitted to Glasgow City Council.
The Crystal Palace in Jamaica Street was designed by John Baird and completed in 1856. Its iron and glass structure was said to be influenced by Joseph Paxton's famous Crystal Palace in London.
JD Wetherspoon currently has 36 hotels in the UK, including seven in Scotland. They all feature an en-suite bathroom, free wi-fi, a flatscreen television and tea and coffee making facilities.
