Plans to expand the Grand Hotel and Spa in York have been recommended for approval. The £15million project would create an additional 121 bedrooms.
The extension would take place in the hotel’s recently acquired Roman House in Rougier Street, the former home of Aviva Insurance. It will extend the hotel from its original building which was once the headquarters of the North Eastern Railway.
In addition the planned extension will create a new business centre and valet parking area at ground floor level. There are also plans to create a new restaurant space on what is currently an outside terrace area which will offer dining space for 140 guests and will be open to both residents and non-residents.
A final decision is expected shortly.
The Grand Hotel and Spa is located in Station Rise alongside York's historic wall and a few minutes’ walk from York station and the heart of the city.
