Plans to convert Grantley Hall near Ripon in North Yorkshire into a luxury hotel and spa have been recommended for approval.

Grantley Hall is a Grade II-listed mansion set in 30 acres of wooded parkland and grounds alongside the River Skell. It dates back to the 17th century when it was built as a private residence. Since then Grantley Hall has been a convalescent home and latterly an adult education residential college.

The project will create a 52-bedroom, five-star hotel with three restaurants and a spa development with a pool, treatment rooms and a gym. In addition the 1910 Japanese garden at Grantley Hall will also be restored.

An eight storey office block off Deansgate in the centre of Manchester could be converted into a new 215 bedroom hotel as part of a wider scheme to improve the city’s Mulberry Square and Lincoln Square.

Owners want to partly demolish and convert John Dalton House into a hotel to be operated by Berlin-based Leonardo Hotels.

The building is currently predominantly office space although the two ground floor units are occupied by restaurant chains, Bill’s and Byron Burgers, which would remain.

The floor space in the building is reportedly underutilised and in view of its prominent location the building would be better suited as a hotel.

The redevelopment would see the installation of a new façade, internal reworking of the building and a two-storey roof extension.

The scheme is currently with the planners at Manchester city council.
