Italy-based hotel chain, Starhotels, has acquired the Gore and the  Pelham boutique townhouse hotels in London.

The 50-bedroom Gore Hotel is close to the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington. The 51-bedroom Pelham Hotel is located in South Kensington.

The acquisition is Starhotels’ first venture into the UK hotel market. Their portfolio comprises 22 hotels (3,690 rooms) in Italy, Paris and New York.

Tottenham Hotspur FC has secured Government planning approval to build a new 58,000-capacity stadium following its recent public inquiry. The ‘Northumberland Development Project’ covers a three hectare site alongside the club’s existing White Hart Lane ground in north London.

The new stadium will be built to the north of the existing stadium which will remain in use throughout the development. It will be constructed in four phases. Out of season, the North Stand of the existing stadium will be demolished and the new pitch laid with a partially completed new stadium in use for one season. The remainder of the existing stadium will then be demolished with the new stadium completed, ready for the start of the 2017 season. Confirmation of the time scale plus details of conference and banqueting facilities await publication.

A new 80-bedroom hotel in Somerset is set to get the go-ahead following a pledge of financial support from the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP). The four-star Eastover Hotel is one component of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme in Bridgewater which will also create a number of business units.

Eastover Hotel will feature a roof top restaurant and conference facilities. It is anticipated that the hotel will help meet demand for bed spaces generated by the nearby Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project, the construction of which is expected to commence in the near future.

It is anticipated that building work at Eastover Hotel will begin this November with completion in early 2016.


The Celtic Manor Resort has unveiled detailed plans for its new Wales International Convention Centre. The convention centre will have a total capacity in excess of 20,000 sq-mt. The main auditorium will accommodate up to 1,300 delegates and will subdivide into smaller spaces. A main 4,000 sq-mt exhibition hall will accommodate up to 2,000 guests for a gala dinner. An additional 15 meeting rooms of various sizes will complement the main convention centre and exhibition space.

Wales International Convention Centre will include parking for up to 1500 cars. With an overall capacity for around 4000 delegates the convention centre will be the largest facility of its kind in Wales and the south west of England.

Wales International Convention Centre secured outline planning permission from Newport City Council last week. It is scheduled to open summer 2018.

Mondrian London at Sea Containers opens today, Tuesday 30th September 2014. It is the first Mondrian branded boutique hotel outside the United States. It is located in the former Sea Containers House overlooking the River Thames on London’s Southbank.

Mondrian London at Sea Containers features an interior inspired by transatlantic ship travel and ocean liner cabins. It has 359 rooms and suites, a main bar plus an exclusive rooftop bar with views across the city. The restaurant features an open kitchen and a wood-fired oven with al-fresco dining overlooking the river. Leisure facilities include AGUA Bathhouse & Spa.

Dandelyan is the main event space. With a green marble bar, décor to match and views of the River Thames it is designed for receptions and parties for up to 250 guests and for informal presentations. The room is equipped with a projector screen and black out windows. There is a semi private area at the back of the room also available for hire.
Studios 1-4 are more formal meeting rooms. The four rooms encompass 3,300 sq-ft of event space accommodating up to 275 guests in total. The rooms are equipped with the latest audio visual and lighting technology as well as contemporary designed furniture. The four rooms can be used independently or together. A 56-seater private screening room is also available for private and press screenings, presentations and product launches.

Mondrian London at Sea Containers is located at 20 Upper Ground between the OXO Tower and Blackfriars Bridge on the South Bank, close to Waterloo and London Bridge stations.
