Back in January this year we reported on plans to demolish a ten-storey building which had housed the Quality Hotel Plymouth.
The building was described as an ‘eyesore’ and it had become a target for anti-social behaviour, including a number of arson attacks.
Since then the building has been demolished and plans have now been revealed to build a new five-star hotel on the site which overlooks Plymouth Hoe.
The proposed £50million development would include a luxury 60-bedroom hotel, conference facilities, a ground floor bistro and bar, leisure facilities including a gym and spa plus a panoramic penthouse with a fine-dining restaurant.
The development will be known as ‘1620’. That is the year the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth for America with the Pilgrim Fathers on board.
It is hoped that the hotel can built by 2019 in time for the Mayflower’s 400th anniversary in 2020.
