Plans have been approved a new high-profile site could be developed next to Manchester's Midland Hotel, which will include a green wall and a rooftop terrace.

London Scottish House is a five-storey office block constructed of brown brick. It opened in 1973 and sits alongside the Midland Hotel. New owners want to refurbish and extend the building.

Plans include retail units at ground and first-floor level, a south-facing green wall enabling staff to grow herbs, vegetables and fruit and a large paved roof terrace over the south-east portion of the building suitable for hosting meetings and social events.

Alton Towers theme park plan to open a CBeebies-themed hotel. The 76-bedroom CBeebies hotel will feature its own entertainment area, a restaurant plus a reception area with a storybook feature using interactive AV elements. It is set to open autumn 2017.

Theming will start on arrival at the hotel entrance, where guests will be greeted by the CBeebies Land plane under a brightly coloured illuminated rainbow archway. Once inside the hotel, children will be greeted by some of their favourite CBeebies characters.

Bedrooms will be able to sleep up to seven people. Each room will have a play area featuring an ‘entertainment wall’.

The hotel will also include a year-round entertainment programme, with live shows, story time sessions, character meet and greets and CBeebies games all on the agenda.

CBeebies Land Rides include: The Numtums Number-Go-Round, Nina’s Science Lab, Postman Pat’s Parcel Post and In The Night Garden Magical Boat Rides.  If you haven’t a clue what any of this means ask your children or grandchildren.

Needless to say the CBeebies-themed hotel at Alton Towers is designed especially for young families and pre-schoolers.

The fact that 93% of Brits help themselves to hotel items would probably come as no surprise to most people. Clearing the toiletries from the hotel bathroom is accepted practice –isn’t it?

Research by Jurys Hotels confirms that it is toiletries which topped the list of ‘taken’ items followed by stationery (17%), slippers (9%), towels (8%) and hotel tableware (4%) amongst the list of top desirable items to take home.

Comparatively, 42% of French claimed to never have pinched anything and nearly half of Germans said the same (48%).

The latest guest research conducted by Jurys also reveals that whilst tipping is deemed the norm when it comes to common British courtesy, one in 10 Brits never leave a tip – with hotel and bar staff less likely to be given extra cash for their services.

A partnership which includes former Manchester United players, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, has unveiled the first images of its 700,000 sq-ft mixed-use scheme in the centre of Manchester.

The plans aim to transform the Jackson’s Row area with a new 200-bedroom, five-star hotel as well as private apartments, office and retail space and restaurants.

The development features two principal buildings:
The 31-storey Number One St. Michael's will be home to the hotel and residences.

The 21-storey Number Two St Michael's will principally provide office accommodation.

The plan also envisages three new public spaces: St Michael’s Square, The Steps and The Garden, which will connect Albert Square and St Peter's Square through to Deansgate and onto Spinningfields in central Manchester. This space will house restaurants, cafes and bars.

A public consultation exhibition will take place at the beginning of September.
