Developer, Urban & Civic, has published its proposals for the future of the Renaissance Hotel site in Manchester city centre.

Plans include new a five-star hotel, 600 apartments plus retail and public buildings.

Proposals would see the demolition of the existing Renaissance Manchester City Centre and its on-site car park.

It would be replaced by three separate buildings.

The plans would open up the site and incorporate views across the River Irwell to Manchester Cathedral.

The site would also include a central courtyard which would be the focal point for restaurants and bars.

The new five-star hotel would have around 250 bedrooms alongside conferencing and leisure facilities with retail and leisure outlets on the ground floor.

Renaissance Manchester City Centre is located at the junction of Deansgate, Market Street and Blackfriars in the heart of central Manchester.

The site has long been earmarked for redevelopment. Former site owners submitted a planning application back in 2008 to build 248 apartments, a 250-bed hotel, 280,000 sq-ft of offices and 60,000 sq-ft of retail. The plan was approved in 2009 but never progressed.

Meanwhile the other proposed five-star hotel development in Manchester is the St Michael’s scheme. This is a £200million mixed use scheme in the centre of Manchester and masterminded by ex-Manchester United footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs.

Local councillors have just given their backing to the scheme and the project is now on the desk of the Housing Minister in London.
