The former Grosvenor Hotel in Torquay will shortly be re-branded as the John Burton-Race Restaurant with Rooms.

The Grosvenor Hotel along with its former manager achieved notoriety in the Channel 4 reality TV series: The Hotel – where a catalogue of disasters was played out for the entertainment of the viewers.

Since then the Grosvenor Hotel has changed owners and undergone a total makeover with two-Michelin-starred chef, John Burton-Race, taking charge in the kitchens.

John Burton-Race Restaurant with Rooms has 46 bedrooms and there are plans to increase this to 50. Each bedroom features an en-suite bathroom, a television, tea/coffee making facilities and free wi-fi.

John Burton-Race Restaurant with Rooms has two principal meeting rooms. The Roslyn Suite will accommodate up to 50 delegates. The Ballroom Suite, with a Victorian stone staircase leading down to the gardens, will accommodate up to 150 guests.

On-site leisure facilities include a heated indoor and outdoor pool, sauna and a hot tub.

The John Burton-Race Restaurant is described as elegant and cosy. ‘Warm colours and ornate open fireplaces create an easy ambience, while John’s menu offers patrons a perfect selection of innovative dishes with a strong emphasis on flavour and presentation’.

John Burton-Race Restaurant with Rooms is located in its own landscaped gardens, a three-minute walk from Torquay’s beaches and a two-minute walk from the centre of Torquay.

The company which operates Blackpool Pleasure Beach has submitted plans to build a new £12million, 120-bedroom hotel and conference centre at the Pleasure Beach.

The proposed new hotel would be a five-storey building. It would be built on the site of the current Star pub which would be demolished to make way for the hotel.

The neighbouring Coasters Diner, which is currently empty, would be redeveloped as a restaurant and bar.

The conference centre would be located on the ground floor of the new hotel.

Bedrooms would either have views across the sea or over Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The new hotel would join the Big Blue Hotel which opened at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2003.

A planning application has been submitted to Blackpool Borough Council.
