Celtic Manor Resort have unveiled their plans to celebrate Royal Entomological Society’s ‘National Insect Week’.

Grub Kitchen will take over the hotel’s Newbridge-on-Usk restaurant as a pop-up experience - from 21st – 23rd June 2018.

Grub Kitchen’s philosophy promotes sustainable local produce combined with the practice of eating insects, or ‘entomophagy’.

Chef Andy Holcroft and entomologist Dr Sarah Beynon are the driving forces behind the project. Their Bug Farm Foods and Grub Kitchen in Pembrokeshire is the UK’s first dedicated insect restaurant. It opened in 2015.

Their aim is to turn bug-munching from novelty to normalcy, introducing our palates to the many delicious and nutritious edible insects that are part of everyday diets in many parts of the world.

Celtic Manor Resort is offering its guests the opportunity to experience the ‘wonder food of the future’ as Chef Andy Holcroft turns high protein critters into flavoursome creations with amazing nutritional benefits.

Diners will be able to tuck into Bug Burger bites and a Grub Garden Tartlet with garlic chapuline grasshoppers followed by caramelised cricket panna cotta.

The pop-up menu will also feature traditional dishes for the less adventurous diners.

Alongside innovative insect dishes the diners at the pop-up will also be able to try craft beers and insect-based cocktails.

Chef Andy Holcroft says: “Insects have served as a food source for people for tens of thousands of years, all over the planet. Today insect eating is rare in the western world, but insects remain a popular food in many places like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Africa, Mexico, Columbia and New Guinea to name just a few.”

easyHotel group is introducing a free lullaby playlist service as an aid to a good night’s sleep.

The lullaby playlist will replicate the soothing sounds of home such as the hum of the hoover and the gurgling of radiator pipes.

The lullaby playlist service will be available via the Spotify app.

The lullaby playlist will trial initially at easyHotels in Glasgow, Newcastle and Croydon.

Other sounds featured include free-moving traffic (no horns), a dishwasher, distant calm conversation, the sound of a shower and a cat purring.

EasyHotels claim the sounds of home will help guests fall sleep.

Glasgow, Newcastle and Croydon have been chosen as the trail hotels because, according to easyHotels, the guests in these hotels have the latest checkout times which suggests that they need the most sleep.

If the experience proves successful, the lullaby playlist service will be rolled out across the easyHotel network.
