A plan to transform the old British Home Store in Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh into a hotel with retail outlets has been approved by the city council.

The five-storey building which dates from the late 1960’s would be converted into a 133- bedroom hotel with a rooftop bar and restaurant boasting tremendous views across to Edinburgh Castle and the historic Old Town.

The Rose Street extension to the store would also be demolished and a new building constructed with two ground-floor restaurants or retail units as well as the hotel entrance.

Construction work on the new hotel is expected to start in September, with an anticipated opening date in late 2018/2019.

The Lancaster London hotel in central London is currently undergoing a major £75million refurbishment.

When this is completed in autumn 2017, the 416-bedroom hotel will revert to its former name: The Royal Lancaster Hotel.

The Royal Lancaster Hotel initially opened at Lancaster Gate overlooking Hyde Park in 1967.

The refurbishment to mark the hotel’s 50th anniversary began in October 2016 with a refurbishment to the lobby with a new café and cocktail bar. £3million is currently being spent revamping and extending the Lounge Bar and Park Restaurant overlooking Hyde Park.

The first of the new-look bedrooms are now available.

By summer 2017 all works will be complete and the Royal Lancaster will unveil its new public areas, its last redesigned floors and its new name.

The Royal Lancaster Hotel is a few steps from Lancaster Gate tube station and is a short walk from Paddington main line rail terminal.

Liverpool-based hotel operator, Signature Living, has published plans to create two new hotels in Belfast this year.

One of them will be a George Best-themed hotel, similar to the group’s planned George Best themed hotel in Manchester which they outlined earlier this year.

The hotel will take on the same template as The Shankly Hotel in Liverpool, also operated by Signature Living.

The Shankly Hotel honours the legendary manager of Liverpool Football Club and is filled with memorabilia donated by the Shankly family.

Since opening in August 2015 the Shankly Hotel has become a landmark destination for football lovers all over the world.

If everything goes to plan development of the two new Belfast hotels will start later this year.

A masterplan developed by Liverpool City Council envisages a new "city centre gateway" for the city’s £2billion regeneration scheme - ‘Knowledge Quarter’.

If approved the land and property around Ranelagh Place, Lime Street and Brownlow Hill could be bought under a Compulsory Purchase Order and redeveloped.

This would include demolition of the Grade II-listed Adelphi Hotel in the centre of Liverpool.

The Adelphi Hotel was rebuilt in 1912 on the site of an earlier hotel. It is a landmark building in the centre of Liverpool. It is currently owned by hotel operator Britannia Hotels.

Liverpool City Council cabinet will meet on 3 March 2017 and is expected to approve the development of a masterplan.
