Construction work has started on the new £13million Bedford Hotel project in Belfast. The hotel will be located in the former Scottish Mutual building on Donegall Square South. The six-storey building will include 70-bedrooms, two restaurants and a banqueting suite. The owners of the Galgorm Resort & Spa in Ballymena are the hotel operators.

The Bedford Hotel will compete with several new hotel developments in Belfast.  Hastings Hotels have acquired Windsor House in the centre of Belfast and plan to convert the former office block into a new 200-bedroom hotel.
Beannchor, owner of the Merchant Hotel in central Belfast, has submitted plans to renovate Lagan House and convert that into a 55-bedroom hotel with a planned opening in 2016.

Best Western Hotels has just unveiled a comprehensive brand ‘refresh’. Best Western International is to be renamed Best Western Hotels & Resorts. This will be supported by a new group logo.

Best Western plan to add five-star rated hotels to its portfolio in future. The group is in talks with a number of hotels located in key destinations to join its BW Premier Collection. It is thought the move will also help change the common perception that Best Western is just a mid-market hotel group.

Best Western is also planning a new midscale brand - ‘GLo’- which is described as a suburban mid-market boutique hotel brand.

The new Best Western family will now include: Best Western Plus, Best Western Premier, BW Premier Collection, Best Western Plus Executive Residency, ViB and Glo.

The new logos will be adopted across the group by Spring 2016.

Construction work is set to start in the near future on a new £9million, 100-bedroom, four-star hotel in the Eastover district of Bridgwater in Somerset.

The site, at the junction of St John Street and Broadway, was formerly occupied by retail outlets which are now empty. These will be demolished to make way for the hotel which will include a restaurant, bar and car parking.

No anticipated opening dates have been published yet.
