BLOC hotels are planning to add 30 new apart-rooms to its first UK property in Birmingham in a bid to target the long stay business or leisure traveller. Each new room will include a kitchenette, a dining and lounge area and a work desk. The new extension will be built around a communal courtyard with glass walkways from the existing hotel. The extension will take the total number of rooms at BLOC Birmingham to 103. The extension should be complete by May or June 2015.
The BLOC brand was launched in 2011 with the opening of its Birmingham hotel. The group opened a 245-bedroom hotel at London Gatwick’s South Terminal in 2013.
BLOC Birmingham is located in the city's Jewellery Quarter a short walk from both Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Snow Hill stations.

Marston’s Brewery is reportedly planning to open a chain of hotels alongside its growing pub-restaurant sites. Marston’s have judged that the market for accommodation with pubs seems very strong. As many as five of its 25 to 30 annual new pub openings in future could include a Marston's lodge.
Marston's already has some 800 bedrooms within its 1,800-strong pub estate. Its efforts would be focused outside of London and its hotel prices would be similar to those offered by the budget chain Premier Inn.
The experiment is part of a wider repositioning at Marston's, which is focusing all its new pub openings on managed, food-led, family-orientated outlets.

It's all change for Thistle Hotels in London this coming autumn. The group plans to launch their new Amba brand in October 2014 and the existing Thistle Hotels will be rebranded accordingly.
Thistle Charing Cross will be the first hotel to be re-branded as an Amba Hotel and it will become a four star deluxe property. Thistle Marble Arch will be the second and the Thistle Tower which is also planning a refurbishment to the exterior of the building will be the third property to rebrand. The Amba brand launch should be complete by January 2015.
The existing Thistle Hotels: Piccadilly, Bloomsbury Park and Trafalgar Square are being refurbished. Meeting and event space is being removed and the hotels will be accommodation-only with limited restaurant facilities.

Another four or possibly five-star hotel in Manchester could be on the cards following a decision by Manchester City Council to back various redevelopment schemes in the city. These include a plan by the property company headed by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, the former Manchester United footballers, to revamp Bootle Street police station in the city and convert it into a hotel.
Bootle Street police station is situated on a parcel of land between Albert Square and Deansgate in the centre of Manchester. The 80-year-old police station closed recently. The proposed hotel will be part of a mixed use scheme which will also include bars and restaurants.
Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville will be opening their first hotel - Hotel Football - opposite Old Trafford in December 2014.

Amazing Venues are set to open their second venue in the Solent a mile off the Hampshire coast later this year. No Man's Fort opens on 10th November 2014 as a luxury 22 bedroom hotel. The fort where one hundred soldiers once slept in hammocks and endured Spartan living conditions defending England against foreign invaders has undergone a total transformation.
Considerably larger than its sister, Spitbank Fort, which opened two years ago, No Man's Fort features a circular atrium for receptions and events, a dining room that can seat up to 200 guests for a lunch, banquet or presentation plus a roof-level event space. No Man's Fort also includes two helicopter pads, a nightclub, laser tag, games rooms, snooker room, meeting space and a rooftop hot-pool.
Spitbank Fort with nine bedrooms will become an exclusive-use venue when No Man's Fort opens.
A third Solent fort - Horse Sand Fort - is currently being renovated. The fort has been left untouched since being de-commissioned in 1956 and will reopen as a museum with residential guests transferred from Spitbank and No man's Fort in a private flotilla of boats.
