Earlier this year the former Thistle Brighton hotel rebranded as Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront. Starting this autumn the hotel will undergo a £5.6 million investment to transform its facilities.

Work includes the refurbishment of all 210 bedrooms with the introduction of the new bespoke DREAM Bed by Jurys Inn with upgraded mattresses, pillows and bed linen.

The public areas including the lobby, the bar and restaurant plus the health and leisure club will be refreshed with a contemporary décor, new furnishings and artwork.

All nine conference and banqueting suites will have a face-lift.

Finally an all-day Costa Coffee Bar will be introduced.

De Vere Venues Staverton Park in Daventry, Northamptonshire has just opened its newly refurbished County Suite and lobby area.

The County Suite, with its own dedicated entrance, now accommodates over 300 delegates. The suite has a new AV system, lighting panels and furnishings.

The County Suite has also been adapted for vehicular access enabling the suite to be used for car launches and similar events.

De Vere Venues Staverton Park has 245 bedrooms. The hotel has 61 flexible event spaces in total, all with natural light, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and free wi-fi.

IWM Duxford’s American Air Museum has just reopened following a five year transformation and redevelopment.  

The American Air Museum tells the story of Anglo-American co-operation in twentieth and twenty-first century conflict, as seen through the eyes of the people linked with the aircraft and objects on display.  Aircraft from the 1930s to the present day have been conserved and are on display.

From a meetings and events viewpoint IWM Duxford has a range of large and small meeting spaces. Conservation Hall is the largest event space at the entrance complete with aircraft on display. It will accommodate up to 800 delegates and can be used daytime or eveing for exhibitions, trade fairs, product launches and major conferences.

The Marshall Auditorium is a contemporary auditorium seating up to 200 delegates and is equipped with a high-spec PA system and adjustable lighting.

The Airside Suite with floor to ceiling windows and overlooking the runway will seat up to 90 delegates. There is also a range of smaller flexible meeting rooms in support.

Team building possibilities including taking to the skies in a Tiger Moth to more grounded activities from treasure hunts to outdoor challenges.

It is all change at Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa in Leicestershire. The former Best Western Hotel is now part of Focus Hotels, a privately-owned group with a portfolio including Doubletree by Hilton and Mercure venues.

Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa is currently undergoing a £1.5million refurbishment - in addition to the £6 million invested in recent years enhancing the hotel’s conference and banqueting facilities.

The work will include an additional seven bedrooms taking the total number to 102 bedrooms. 32 original Classic Rooms are being completely revamped. The hotel lounge is being upgraded and the gym is being re—equipped. The work is due to complete by autumn 2016.

Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa has a range of fully equipped, ground floor meeting rooms with the Bradgate Suite the largest seating up to 300 delegates theatre style.

The Palace Hotel in Manchester, now part of Starwood Capital Group, has unveiled plans for a multi-million pound refurbishment, due for completion summer 2016.

Other members of the former Principal Hayley Collection including The Royal York Hotel and The George Hotel in Edinburgh have already benefitted from the £200million group investment project instigated following the acquisition of Principal Hayley in 2013 by Starwood Capital Group.

Renovation of the flagship Hotel Russell in London is yet to get underway.

The project at The Palace Hotel will include a new bar and restaurant. The Palace Hotel will also be teaming with schools, colleges, universities and charities from across Manchester to help encourage young people into a career in hospitality.

The 275-bedroom, four-star Palace Hotel is located in central Manchester close to both Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly stations.
