Dorsett Shepherds Bush hotel in west London is set for an expansion.

The hotel’s owner, Dorsett Hospitality International Group, has gained planning approval to develop the Shepherd’s Bush Palladium alongside the hotel into 74 serviced apartments.

Development is expected to begin in 2018 with completion the following year.

The building will have eight storeys added to accommodate a combination of one-bedroom and duplex serviced apartments. The ground floor will feature a restaurant linked to the Dorsett Shepherds Bush and the lower ground floor will house a café and entertainment space.

The Shepherd’s Bush Palladium dates back to 1910 and is steeped in history. The redevelopment will preserve the building’s original Edwardian façade as well as the historic details.

The 317-bedroom Dorsett Shepherds Bush opened in 2014 and it marked the group’s entry into the UK hotel market.

Their second hotel, also in London, will be the 267-bedroom Dorsett City in Aldgate. It is planned to open on 2nd July 2017 with 267 bedrooms, two restaurants, a 24-hour gym, event space and a destination rooftop terrace bar.

The Postal Museum and Mail Rail are new events venues opening in central London in July 2017.

The Postal Museum promises to be a light, bright and contemporary space which chronicles five centuries of social and communication history across Britain. The Postal Museum also features a private sunny courtyard and innovative living wall.

The Postal Museum will be available to hire for up to 140 guests for events such as cocktail receptions, summer parties and BBQs.

Across the road from the Postal Museum is Mail Rail - the Post Office’s former underground rail system.

In operation for over a hundred years the rail system was used to distribute the mail underground across London. The former engineering depot and tunnels will now be reopening as an events venue.

It may be 70 feet below ground but Mail Rail does offer a unique blank canvas space - in a historical building complete with its original architecture including vaulted brick arches and other railway influences.

Delegates will be able to board a miniature train to transport them through the historic tunnels which once delivered mail across the city.

The space will accommodate up to 275 guests for a standing reception or 140 seated. It can be used for dinners and receptions, product launches and award ceremonies, networking and breakfast briefings plus filming and photography.

The Postal Museum and Mail Rail are located at the Royal Mail’s sorting office in Mount Pleasant, Farringdon. It is a short walk from Euston and Kings Cross St Pancras stations and an even shorter walk from Russell Square and Chancery Lane tube stations.

A wave of publicity in the national press has accompanied the opening of The Ned Hotel in central London. This is partly because it is operated by the private club operator, Soho House Group, and partly because of the £200 million bill invested in the building’s renovation.

The Ned was formerly a Midland Bank, built by English architect Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens in 1924. It is located just around the corner from the Bank of England in the heart of the City of London.

The building’s vast triple height banking hall and the acres of marble have all been preserved and incorporated into the property’s new design.

The Ned has 252 bedrooms, nine restaurants and fifteen bars. Eight of the restaurants are open-plan demarcated by the old oak teller counters. They serve everything from New York deli-style to Asian-Pacific bowl food.

Leisure facilities at The Ned include a state-of-the-art gym with a boxing ring, a swimming pool in the former bullion reserve plus a rooftop swimming pool with views across to St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Ned has six Grade II-listed meeting rooms and two outdoor terraces all available to hire. Each of the meeting spaces feature walnut panelling and vintage chandeliers, as well as domed windows allowing plenty of natural light.

Meeting rooms range in size from 21 square metres to 165 square metres, and will accommodate from four to 200 delegates.

The major attraction at The Ned is expected to be the Vault Bar in the basement with its 20-ton, six-foot thick door - the inspiration for the Fort Knox model in the film Goldfinger.

The Ned opens officially on 1st May 2017.
