Oxford Abingdon Hotel is set to be rebranded as Hilton Garden Inn Oxford following completion of an extension and a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Oxford Abingdon Hotel was formerly a Four Pillars hotel.  Future plans will see a demolition of part of the current building to be replaced by a new four-storey block, housing a new restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, leisure facilities plus an additional 83 bedrooms.

Oxford Abingdon Hotel will remain open throughout the extension works. The existing bedrooms will be fully renovated when the new wing is complete.

The change of branding to Hilton Garden Inn is expected summer 2018.

Oxford Abingdon Hotel is located in the Thames Valley, 9.5 km south of Oxford city centre and a short drive from the A34. The hotel has extensive on-site car parking available free of charge.

One of the most interesting projects to emerge from the MIPIM property investment conference held recently in Cannes centred on a planned regeneration of the former Coventry Telegraph building.

Developers are planning to convert the 1950’s building in central Coventry into a boutique hotel with meeting facilities.

They are also exploring the possibility of working in conjunction with the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry which sits alongside the Telegraph building.

The Belgrade Theatre is already a recognised conference venue but suffers from a lack of smaller rooms for small scale meetings and as breakout space. The hotel could fulfil this need.

The ground floor of the hotel would feature an informal gallery of Coventry’s 1950’s architecture as well as being a hub for meetings and events.

Meeting rooms at the hotel could be used for business events during the day and in the evening used to show art-house films for example. Both the hotel and the Belgrade Theatre could ‘feed off’ each other.

Currently the project is still on the drawing board. Developers are hoping to be in a position to apply for planning permission later this year which would allow for building work to start in 2018.

The complex would then be ready by 2021 -the year Coventry is bidding to become the UK City of Culture.

Proposals to build a new 137-bedroom Dakota Deluxe hotel in Manchester look set to secure planning approval.

The hotel would be located in Ducie Street next to the Rochdale Canal in the Piccadilly Basin in the centre of Manchester. The site is currently used as a 90-space surface car park.

As well as 137 bedrooms, Dakota Deluxe Manchester would also include a 90-cover cocktail bar and a 150-cover restaurant grill. Plans also show a terrace fronting the canal, partially covered by a glass pergola, for the bar and restaurant.

The plan is due to be considered by Manchester City planners in early April.
