The latest Motel One has just opened in Newcastle-on-Tyne, the group's fifth 'luxury budget' hotel in the UK.

Motel One Newcastle has 222 bedrooms and is located in the centre of Newcastle a short walk from Newcastle Central station.

Its opening marks the end of a three-year project to transform the site. The result is a double-fronted building which retains its original facade and period features. The hotel reception area features black and white striped wallpaper, an apparent nod to Newcastle United, while scenes of the city’s bridges are displayed on the walls.

Motel One bedrooms combine design with functionality and 'space-saving' and all are equipped with the latest technology including free wi-fi.

Motel One Newcastle includes a breakfast lounge.

Motel One has a further two hotels in the pipeline for the UK in Glasgow and Manchester.

Llanthony Secunda Priory, a 12th century priory in Gloucester, is set to be regenerated to provide education and conferencing facilities.

The priory, rumoured to be the origin of the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme, was founded in 1136 by Miles of Gloucester for Augustinian monks. The origin of the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme follows an incident during the Siege of Gloucester in the English Civil War. The name is said to refer to a Royalist canon which was installed on the walls of the priory with the aim of breaking the siege. However it misfired and exploded after its first shot.

The Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust proposes the regeneration of Grade I and Grade II-listed buildings at the priory which will include internal and external repairs to the historic buildings bringing them back into use with landscaping and new parking provision.

A decision for approval by Gloucester City Council is expected shortly.

Llanthony Secunda Priory is located Llanthony Road close to the centre of Gloucester.
