Kampus is a new city centre district proposed for Manchester. It would be centred on Aytoun Street, a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly rail station.

Kampus would sit on a 2.3 acre site which currently backs onto the NCP Minshull Street car park at one end and Chorlton Street - between Canal Street and Manchester Metropolitan University’s former Aytoun Street Campus - at the other.

The designers of Kampus are seeking to create a new vibrant hub in Manchester city centre. It would include 500 apartments, hotels and leisure space, as well as artisan bars and independent restaurants, all  built around a central square with green space alongside the Rochdale Canal which runs through the district.

More worrying, the district is set to retain links with its roots. The main square would be named in honour of the legendary Roger Aytoun, known as ‘Spanking Roger’, a 6ft 4ins Scotsman and hero of the Siege of Gibraltar in the 18th century and who gives his name to Aytoun Street where Kampus will be located.

So far the Kampus project is still at the proposal stage. The investment required to bring it to fruition is estimated at £150million.
