Intercontinental London Westminster which opened two years ago is to be rebranded as the Conrad London Westminster in September 2014 following a franchise agreement with the property owners.
Conrad London Westminster has 256 bedrooms over its six floors including 42 premium rooms, suites and a penthouse.  All rooms feature a contemporary design, with king-bedded and twin-bedded room option plus free wi-fi, a media hub, a Club Lounge and the latest in-room technology.

Conrad London Westminster is located at 28 Broadway between Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace.

Plans have been unveiled to build a conference centre, a concert hall and a 150-bedroom four-star hotel in Hull. The £42million scheme is earmarked for derelict land between the Princes Quay shopping centre and Castle Street in the centre of Hull
The conference centre would be capable of hosting a wide range of events, from exhibitions to music concerts and trade shows.

It is unlikely that the complex will be complete by 2017 when Hull becomes the UK City of Culture. Rather it is being seen as a potential legacy project.

Serviced apartment operators, Go Native, will be opening 146 new apartments in the second half of 2014 – 135 in Stratford East next month with an additional eleven at their America Square (pictured left) residence in December. StayCity recently opened 161 new apartments in Greenwich.

The growth in the serviced apartment sector is highlighted in a report from the Association of Serviced Accommodation Providers (ASAP) who have identified a 10% growth in the total stock of 13,000 apartments throughout the UK with 70% of the increase coming from London.

The Go Native new apartments in Stratford East will be located in Pioneer Point’s South Tower. The group already operates apartments in the North Tower. These apartments are 15 minutes from Liverpool Street and 25 minutes from Canary Wharf. In America Square the group is opening its eleven new apartments in an art deco-style block. These will be five star quality, air conditioned apartments overlooking America Square, minutes from Fenchurch Street, Tower Hill and Aldgate Tube stations.

Elsewhere in the UK, ESA will be opening new apartments in Woking and Guildford. Apple Apartments have just opened 35 new apartments in Belfast to add to their properties in London and Aberdeen.

Investment company, the Topland Group, has bought Hallmark Hotels to add to its clutch of Menzies Hotels which the company purchased at the end of 2013.

Hallmark has seven hotels in Croydon, Derby, Bournemouth, Carlisle, Manchester, Gloucester and Hull. Topland now has a portfolio of 30 three and four star hotels across the UK. As well as Menzies and Hallmark, the company also own the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath.

Glh, the London-based hotel group and operators of Guoman and Thistle hotels, are to launch the ‘Every Hotel’ brand, a four star product targeted at the business traveller. Glh research shows that four star hotels outside gateway cities can have meeting and event space running as low as 30% occupancy, when room occupancy is running more than double that. Hence it wants to create a hotel product which addresses this imbalance.

Glh also recognise that whilst customers say that they like hotels with lots of restaurants, ballrooms, meeting spaces, spas, swimming pools and whatever – they hardly ever use those facilities.

Every Hotel will provide guests with a hassle-free stay from the point of booking combined with the latest innovative technology including Smart televisions and device connections plus fast, free, unlimited wi-fi for all guests, throughout the hotel.

Four Every Hotels will be opening in London. They are all previous Thistle-branded properties which will be refurbished prior to their rebranding. The first to open will be Every Piccadilly which will launch in November 2014. This will be followed by Hyde Park, Leicester Square and Bloomsbury.

The group has a global ambition to operate up to 50 Every Hotels by the end of the decade.
