Plans by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to transform a historic site into its first garden in the North West have secured a £5.5million funding boost - the development at Worsley New Hall in Salford is now under way.

The new 150 acre-plus garden will be known as RHS Garden Bridgewater and it forms part of the RHS 10-year £160million investment programme.

The creation of RHS Garden Bridgewater will be the largest gardening project in Europe. As well as various gardens, allotments, glasshouses, teaching and development space, RHS Garden Bridgewater will also include an events and learning space.

The first phase of the development will include restoration of the 11-acre walled garden expected to open summer 2019.

Phase two will see the opening of a new welcome building, including an events space, a learning space, offices, café, shop and plant centre – expected to open in 2020.

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced that starting this month most of its hotels will move to a 24-hour cancellation policy.

IHG’s previous cancellation policy varied by both region and brand.  The new policy means that the majority of the IHG estate will now operate under similar terms.

Guests will have one day prior to arrival to cancel their reservations without penalty.

Both the Marriott and Hilton groups have recently announced a predominantly 48-hour cancellation policy.

Implementation of the new IHG policy is expected to start in the UK and Europe from 28th July 2017. It will be followed by hotels in the USA in August, with the rest of the world following in September.

Plans are set to go on display for the new façade at the Abode Exeter Hotel, better known as the Royal Clarence Hotel, which was destroyed by fire last year.

The new façade will be as true as possible to the original.

The Royal Clarence is a Grade II-listed building dating largely from the 18thcentury. It is thought to be the oldest hotel in the UK.

The hotel suffered serious damage in a fire last October. Deconstruction works on the remaining structures have taken place over the past few months.

A public consultation for external plans which will preserve the surviving historical and architectural features of the building will take place from 26 July 2017.

Construction is expected to start in September 2017 with an anticipated opening date in 2019.
