easyHotel has revealed plans to expand in Yorkshire with a proposal to convert  a former Primark store in Sheffield into a 131-bedroom hotel.

The retail store has closed its site in High Street in the centre of Sheffield prior to opening a new store at Sheffield’s Meadowhall complex.

easyHotel would be spread across three floors of the five-storey building with bedrooms from the second level upwards. Commercial elements would occupy the lower floors with a gym planned for the basement.

easyHotel currently operates six hotels in London plus properties in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Luton and Croydon.

New designs for the proposed £8.5 million, 109-bedroom hotel at the Eden Project in Cornwall have been published.

The striking new design features prominent timber poles cladding the outside of the hotel’s two blocks with local stone cladding at the lower level. The design has been developed to appease local concerns about the hotel's impact on the countryside.

The new hotel will support existing projects and future developments at the Eden  Project, as well as providing a  venue for conferences and events.

If approved by Cornwall Council construction could start in late 2017 with the hotel opening in April 2018.

The Eden Project originally received planning permission for a hotel in June 2015. A revised design was submitted in May 2016 with additional facilities which was later withdrawn following adverse comments about the visual impact and scale of the proposals.
