St Mellons Hotel in south Wales has lodged plans to double the number of its bedrooms and improve the conference facilities.

St Mellons Hotel is a country house hotel set in its own gardens midway between Cardiff and Newport and adjacent to St Mellons Golf Course.

St Mellons Hotel currently has 41 bedrooms. The extension would take that number up to 88 bedrooms.

The new development would see part of the existing building demolished and an extension built which would also provide upgraded facilities for conferences as well as a health club. An external renovation of the hotel and landscaping would follow, along with the replacement of existing chalets in the grounds with 18 log cabins.

St Mellons Hotel is located close to the M4 at junction 28 with good access to Cardiff Central station and Cardiff International Airport.

Chelsea Football Club has unveiled plans to build a new stadium on the site of their current home at Stamford Bridge. This will involve demolishing the existing 41,600-seat stadium and replacing it with a new 60,000-seat stadium.

The new stadium will include a shop, museum and restaurant but there is no mention yet of the future conference and events facilities. Stamford Bridge currently has over twenty conference and banqueting suites of varying dimensions.

Subject to planning approval preliminary work should start at the end of this football season. Demolition of Stamford Bridge would begin in 2017 with Chelsea moving to a temporary home, most likely Wembley, for a three-year period.

The investment is thought to be in the region of £500million complicated by the fact that the new stadium is planned to bridge two bordering train lines.
