Plans are afoot to transform Hadspen House in the heart of Somerset into a 30-bedroom boutique hotel.
The plan is the brainchild of Hadspen House’s new owner - a South African businessman who has created ‘Babylonstoren’ in his home country.
Babylonstoren is a Cape Dutch farm estate now converted into a hotel, spa, restaurant and winery.
Hadspen House is located near Castle Cary in south Somerset. It is a 17th century Grade-II listed mansion and estate. Plans would see the house and estate restored and transformed into a hotel with between 30 to 35 bedrooms, a spa and a visitor centre.
The hotel would also include an 80-cover restaurant using fresh produce from the estate’s kitchen garden, a café, pool, farm shop and cider mill.
A planning application has been submitted to Somerset South District Council. If everything goes to plan, then the Hadspen House project is expected to be taking its first guests during 2019.

Construction of the new Moxy Hotel at Birmingham’s NEC site will begin in June 2018.
The Moxy Hotel, a Marriott International lifestyle brand, it will be built over eight floors and provide 224 bedrooms. It is due to open in mid-2019.
The hotel will be constructed ‘pod-style’ with the pods being manufactured in Italy and then transported in sections and assembled on site at the NEC.
The new Moxy Hotel complements significant investment at the NEC campus over recent years. This has included the £150million-plus Resorts World complex that opened in late 2015.
A Bear Grylls Adventure, to be operated by Merlin Entertainments, will open on the site later this year.
