The Met in Bury, Greater Manchester, is planning a £4.5million overhaul of its Victorian theatre located in Market Street in the centre of Bury.

The Met is governed by Bury Metro Arts Association. It has a range of meeting spaces which are available to hire by outside organisations. They include the main theatre seating up to 220 people with flexible staging and a retractable tiered seating system plus full professional stage lighting and sound systems. The Studio Theatre, also with retractable seating, will seat up to 80 people and Studio 2, the rehearsal room, can be used for meetings or presentations for up to 20 delegates.

The planned refurbishment will retain the Victorian character of the Met whilst improving the facilities. Plans include a new mezzanine floor in the main theatre.

The work is expected to start later this year.

American-based hotel operator, Union Hanover, has unveiled plans for a new boutique-styled hotel in Stratford City in East London.  The hotel will be the Penny Brook and it will operate under the group’s NoHo branding.  It will have 220 bedrooms and will feature a rooftop bar and restaurant over the top two floors of the building plus a pop-up street food market. The Penny Brook will include around 15,000 sq. ft. of conference space.

The decision to open the Penny Brook represents a change of heart by Union Hanover who had earmarked the site for an Urban Villa – an extended stay hotel.

Penny Brook will be located in Stratford City’s International Quarter, a three acre site of new homes, businesses and cultural outlets. It is around an eight minute travelling time from the City of London. No anticipated opening dates have been published.

West Midland Safari Park has published plans to create an indoor water park, a 1,000-delegate conference and exhibition centre and a 250-bedroom hotel at the attraction. Plans also include a link to the Severn Valley Railway. The safari park will be hosting two public meetings this month to seek opinions on the proposed £80million, ten-year project.

West Midland Safari Park is a 150-acre safari which incorporates Spring Grove House (pictured left), available to hire exclusively for conferences, meetings and any prestigious business event. Spring Grove House is non-residential. West Midlands Safari Park is located in Bewdley in Worcestershire.

A planning application is to be submitted shortly to build a new 100-bedroom hotel at Humberside Airport. Paul Green, the developer behind the scheme, currently operates Nightel Humber, Humberside Airport's only existing hotel which caters for workers in the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors, who work off the North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire coast.

If the plans are approved work is expected to start on site immediately with an opening possibly as early as summer 2015.

Plans to build a new business park with a 63-bedroom hotel together with offices, industrial units and a residential area in Sandbach near to the M6 motorway have been given the go-ahead by Cheshire East Council. The Capricorn Park project envelopes 31 acres of open Cheshire farmland and whilst the site first received planning approval back in 1989 no actual development has ever taken place – so far.

Capricorn Park is close to junction 17 of the M6.
