Plans to rebuild the Abode Hotel in Exeter, better known as the Royal Clarence Hotel, look set for approval when they are up for discussion by Exeter City Council next week.

The Royal Clarence Hotel dates from 1769 and is thought to be the oldest hotel in Britain. It was destroyed in a serious fire last year.

Proposals would see the historic frontage of the hotel restored, with a modern building behind with 74 bedrooms, including an additional floor at roof level with views over Cathedral Green.

Surviving features such as the distinctive iron work and stained glass windows would be preserved and restored.

ABode Exeteris located in Cathedral Yard in the heart of Exeter.

Plans to convert the former Granada TV studios in Manchester into a hotel were first approved in 2015.

Owners have now submitted a revised planning application which would increase the number of hotel rooms to 210, as well adding a new rooftop space with terraces, bar areas and two heated outdoor swimming pools.

An eight-storey office unit which featured in the original plans would also be replaced with a 10-storey residential block.

Additional space at the Granada TV studio would be kept as an events venue

The hotel would be operated as a Mollies Motel & Diner. It will be the first opening in the UK of a new hotel brand, part of members’ club operator Soho House. The group then plan to roll out the concept across six cities in England.

The redevelopment of the former studios is expected to take two years to complete.

The Principal London hotel is scheduled to open in early 2018 with 334 bedrooms. The hotel, formerly the landmark Hotel Russell prior to its multi-million-pound makeover, will sit on the eastern edge of Russell Square in central London.

The Principal London will include a Grade II–listed Grand Ballroom to accommodate up to 450 guests with an additional eight meeting and events spaces ranging in capacity from six to 90 delegates. All meeting rooms will include free wi-fi and Smart TVs.

The new-look bedrooms at The Principal London all feature a striking new contemporary interior design as well as new custom-designed beds. They range in size from a 16 sq-mt City Single room to a 68 sq-mt Suite.

The Principal London is set to continue a tradition which dates back to 1898 when the first hotel opened on this site.

The Principal London is located alongside Russell Square tube station. It is a short walk from both Euston and Kings Cross/St Pancras mainline and tube stations.

A proposed new hotel is planned in Oldham.

The site, in Oldham town centre, is bordered by Rock Street, Hopkin Street and Bradshaw Street.

There is an existing four-storey building on the site which sits alongside a car park. The building was formerly a nightclub, a restaurant and a dance school.

Under the plans, the existing building would be demolished and replaced with a five-storey 70-bedroom three-star hotel with a restaurant, café and roof terrace.

The building would also include a range of private apartments as well as a basement car park.

No hotel operator has yet been confirmed.

Plans are due to be discussed by the local authority planning committee shortly.
