A planning application has been submitted for a new 120-bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Oldham Road in Manchester.

The hotel is part of a new development - Central Park Plaza - and will also include a nursery, offices, a multi-storey car park and a Starbucks drive thru.

The operator of the new Holiday Inn Express also owns the Holiday Inn Manchester Central Park in Oldham Road.

Construction is expected to start in summer 2017 subject to planning consent, with completion in autumn 2018.


Construction of the new International Convention Centre Wales at the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport is due to start in February 2017. Clearing work has already begun on site.

In figures, the International Convention Centre Wales will cost £100million to build. Its 26,000 sq-ft footprint will house a 4,000-seat ballroom which will be the largest, pillar-free ballroom in Europe.

It will feature a 1,500 seat auditorium and will accommodate up to 5,000 delegates in total.

There will be 5 large divisible syndicate rooms which can create up to 12 syndicate areas seating up to 700 delegates theatre style across all 12.

The International Convention Centre Wales will have state-of-the-art technology with fully integrated audio visual facilities.

The International Convention Centre Wales is due to be completed and ready for opening by June 2019.

The new Mercure London Hyde Park is now officially open – the latest luxury boutique hotel to open in London.

Preston in Lancashire could soon have three new hotels.

Last month we highlighted plans to convert the former Park Hotel close to Preston station back into a 154-bedroom luxury hotel.

Plans to transform the Guild Centre in Preston into a £10million aparthotel (pictured) with casino, spa and gym are on the verge of securing the go-ahead.

The 15-storey building would be converted into a 105 room aparthotel by operator Villa Urban.

The aparthotel would occupy the upper storeys with a casino and gym on the lower levels.

Also set for imminent approval are plans to convert the former central Post Office in Preston into a 60 bedroom boutique hotel.

The development proposed by Signature Living involves adding a two-storey flat-roof extension to the existing Grade II-listed building.  

The new hotel would include a restaurant/bar, function space and a spa. The Post Office closed in 2005 and the building has been vacant ever since.

Preston City Council’s planning committee is due to meet early December to discuss the Guild Hall and Post Office projects.
