Construction work is now complete on Southampton Solent University’s new £33million conference centre: The Spark.

The Spark will offer event spaces range from meeting rooms, lecture theatres, conference suites and innovative learning rooms to a 3D cinema, as well as The Whitebeam Fine Dining Suite.

The Spark also features extensive sports facilities and television, photography and performances studios.

A dramatic 60m central atrium and an elevated ‘pod’ give a futuristic feel to the building. Both will be available for business and community hire for trade shows to fashion shows, art exhibitions to networking events.

The Spark opens late summer 2016.

The Spark is located in the centre of Southampton’s cultural quarter, five minutes from Southampton Central station and fifteen minutes from Southampton airport.

Plans are afoot to add two storeys to the Royal Angus Hotel in the centre of Birmingham.

The extension will house almost a hundred additional bedrooms.

The Royal Angus Hotel, opposite St Chad's Cathedral, currently has 133 bedrooms. This could rise to 226 bedrooms.

Plans also include a single storey extension to the hotel's existing third floor terrace. This will become a new 200-cover restaurant at the Royal Angus Hotel.

Birmingham City Council planning committee meet later in July to discuss the proposals.

The Royal Angus Hotel was formerly a Thistle-branded hotel before joining The Hotel Collection. It is now managed by Snow Hill Birmingham Developments LLP.

The Royal Angus Hotel is located in the Snow Hill quarter of the city - a short walk from Birmingham Snow Hill station and a five minute drive from the M6 at Spaghetti Junction.

Plans to redevelopment Cardiff's Coal Exchange into a hotel have been given the go-ahead.

Despite being a Grade II-listed building, the Coal Exchange is now in a severe state of disrepair. Liverpool-based Signature Living want to turn the Coal Exchange into a 200-suite hotel with a restaurant, bar and a spa facility. The former trading hall will be transformed into an events venue with a capacity of up to 1000 delegates.

The Coal Exchange is located in Cardiff Bay. It was constructed between 1883 and 1886 and was used to trade coal.

Reconstruction of the Cardiff Coal Exchange is expected to take eighteen months to complete with initial work starting in the next few weeks.

Sadly the new Radisson Blu Hotel Kingston upon Hull which should have opened in time to celebrate Hull’s turn as the City of Culture in 2017 is now not scheduled to open until early 2018.

Problems with demolition work on site has accounted for the delay but construction is now expected to start later this year.

Radisson Blu Hotel Kingston upon Hull will have 168 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, leisure and meeting facilities. It will be part of the Manor Mill development in Hull and will share the site with a 23-storey residential tower, restaurants and a casino.
