Harbour Hotels group is expanding and opening a hotel in Guildford, Surrey. 

Guildford Harbour Hotel opens in April 2016 with 183 bedrooms, a restaurant with an al-fresco dining terrace, a bar and a luxury spa. The hotel was formerly the Radisson Blu hotel Guildford.

Guildford Harbour Hotel will have event space for up to 400 guests. The main suite will accommodate up to 230 delegates theatre style supported by a range of smaller rooms and boardrooms.

The terrace, complete with a retractable roof, will accommodate up to 400 guests for a reception.

Guildford Harbour Hotel joins a group which includes six boutique hotels in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall as well as Froyle Park in Hampshire and Northbrook Park in Surrey. New properties opening in the near future include hotels in Brighton, Bristol and Southampton.

Hull City Council has approved plans for a new conference facility in the centre of Hull.

The new £36million centre will include a 3,500 capacity concert auditorium with the flexibility to reduce to a 2,500 all-seated event and a 2,000sq-mt exhibition space plus an 800-capacity conference auditorium.

It is expected to open in 2018 and will form part of Hull’s Beverley Gate redevelopment. Conference delegates will also enjoy panoramic views across Hull Marina.

The new centre will be part of Hull’s plan to secure a long-term legacy following its year as UK City of Culture in 2017.


Marriott Hotels have announced plans to open five new Moxy Hotels in key European cities in 2016 - including Aberdeen in the UK.

Moxy is Marriott’s pitch for the millennial travel market. Moxys feature lobbies as social spaces with 24/7 self-service grab-and-go food and drink offerings, ample plug-ins for personal devices plus free and fast wi-fi.

Each Moxy hotel also features a library and plug-in zone for a quiet read or a web browse. Bedrooms offer keyless entry and motion-sensor lighting.

Moxy Aberdeen is scheduled to open at Aberdeen Airport with 200 bedrooms in December 2016. It will be located seven minutes from the main terminal buildings.

Other European cities earmarked by Marriott include: Munich, Eschborn and Berlin in Germany and Oslo in Norway.

Serviced apartment company, SACO, has acquired a new property in Buckle Street, London and is planning to convert it into an aparthotel.

The building is currently a five-storey office property. It will become a 78-unit aparthotel with an opening planned in the second half of 2018. It will also form an extension to SACO’s new 168-unit aparthotel in Leman Street which is scheduled to open at the end of 2016.

Both aparthotels are located in Aldgate East on the fringe of the City of London and a short walk from Brick Lane and Spitalfields Market.

The new property is one of five SACO projects scheduled to open in the next three years. The first in London’s Cannon Street will open its first phase in March 2016 with 77 studio and one bedroom serviced apartments. SACO will also be launching two aparthotels in Edinburgh in 2017.

The Topland Group, the new owners of Feathers Hotel Collection, has rebranded the collection as Hallmark Hotels.

As a result, the Hallmark Hotels portfolio has increased to 28 hotels in the UK, ten of which are to be found in the North West of England which was a former Feathers Hotels stronghold.
